A young Nepalese woman was allegedly drugged, gang-raped by three young men in a car and then dumped in a jungle in South Delhi on Wednesday. The victim has been admitted to Safdarjung Hospital and is stated to be out of danger.

The 20-year-old woman was found in a semi-conscious state near Nanakpura Gurdwara in Moti Bagh around 7-30 a.m. on Thursday by a passerby. She had scribbled some words on the ground, including her name, indicating that she was raped and that she was a Nepalese living at Kotla (Mubarakpur) in South Delhi.

The passerby called up the Police Control Room at 7-40 a.m. The victim was then taken to Safdarjung Hospital in a police vehicle. “Her medical examination revealed no external or internal injuries,” said a police officer.

The woman is not yet fit for recording her statement, but she has been able to disclose her identity to the police. She got married a couple of months ago to a Nepalese living in Kotla Mubarakpur but had herself been living in a house at Defence Colony where she works as a domestic help. Her husband works at a restaurant in Greater Kailash.

The woman told the police that on Wednesday night she had gone to Chirag Dilli to meet her brother.

“She is unable to recall her brother’s name. She says that she went to his residence around 11 p.m. and found it locked from outside,” said the officer. The woman then went to a nearby bus queue shelter where she was waiting for a public transport vehicle when a car stopped close to her.

Car driver

The car driver offered her a lift and oblivious of what lay ahead, she got into the vehicle.

On the way, two more young men, got into the vehicle.

“The woman told us that they first went to Vasant Kunj and then drove to neighbouring Gurgaon. She alleges that while travelling, the three youth offered her two glasses of cold drinks. Soon after she consumed the cold drinks, she fell unconscious and does not remember what happened thereafter,” said the officer.

The victim told the police that when she regained consciousness, she found herself lying in a jungle. She somehow walked some distance where an auto-rickshaw driver spotted her and finding her in that condition offered help. The driver then dropped the woman near Nanakpura Gurdwara.

“She has so far not accused anyone of having raped her. She does not remember the make of the vehicle in which she had taken lift and cannot also give the description of the persons involved. At this stage, she cannot recall whether she was raped or not. Therefore, on the basis of the PCR call we have registered a case of gang-rape and intoxication at the South Campus police station and are trying to reconstruct the sequence of events leading up to the incident. We have also contacted the victim’s husband,” the officer added.

#delhigangrape Repeated- After Nirbhaya, this time it is Roshni. Reporting from Ground Zero #Vaw #WTFNEWS

Press Release

Exactly a month after the Nirbhaya rape case, another rape has taken
place, that too in broad day-light, barely a few kilometres from where
Nirbhaya was found in a seriously injured condition. Clearly, Nirbhaya
has been forgotten and it is business as usual, at least as far as the
Delhi Police is concerned, probably as this case is not being
considered to be ‘high-profile’ enough for them to take proper action.

This time it is Roshni (name changed), an 8 year old daughter of
migrant industrial workers who were raped by a yet to be identified
person on the afternoon of the 17th January 2013 at her residence in
Kapashera, South West Delhi. She was taken to the Safdarjung Hospital
by her parents during the evening on the same day.

Even after a week of the crime, the police appear to be doing a
whitewash of the crime at best, as no results of their ‘efforts’ are
evident. There was an attempt to change the nature of the crime in the
FIR that was lodged, which was foiled by a well-wisher of the girl’s
family, who pressurised the Police to note the actual crime in the
FIR.

However, the Police have not been doing the investigations in a
professional manner. According to a media report, the police have said
that the girl was unable to describe the rapists. This is not true.
Though the girl was injured, she has been able to describe the rapist.
While many innocent workers and others from the community are being
rounded up and being subjected to questioning, a simple task like
creating a sketch of the rapist, based on the description provided by
the girl has not been done. The police have been harassing innocent
people in the name of investigations, as is the norm in such cases.

The victim’s family is being pressurized by their landlord to leave
the place, leading to evident doubts, about his complicity in the
crime. However, this fact has also been ignored by the investigators.

The rape has happened in the same area as Nirbhaya. Even the hospital
where the victim has been admitted is the same. So even at ground
zero, nothing is different at all. The various ‘machineries’
supposedly created as a result of the national and international
pressure of the Nirbhaya case have already failed their test, within a
few days after creation. We would like to let you know that it is
business as usual, and girls and women are as unsafe like ever before
in Delhi.

About us:- Nari Shakti Manch is a women’s organization working for the
rights of migrant women and children in Kapashera and Gurgaon. We run
a learning centre for the children in the area, besides empowerment
groups for women. This case was brought to our notice by one of the
participants in our programme, as it happened in the area where we
work. We have been in touch with the family of the victim and are
providing them with necessary support in this time of crisis.

OMEN AGAINST SEXUAL ASSAULT AND STATE REPRESSION

DELHI GANG RAPE SURVIVOR DIES IN SINGAPORE

 WHY WAS SHE SHIFTED?

We are anguished beyond words at the news this morning of the death in a Singapore hospital of the young woman who was brutally assaulted and gang-raped in a moving bus in Delhi on 16th December.

We hold the Government of India, which took the decision of moving her out of the country despite her fragile condition, against medical advice, responsible for hastening her death.

It is clear that this was a political decision, taken with a cynical and callous disregard for the survival of the young woman.

According to Dr Samiran Nandy, a renowned transplant surgeon of the country, “I just can’t understand why a critically ill patient with infection in blood and body, high grade fever and on the ventilator is being transferred.  It will take weeks in this case to even look into the possibility of an intestinal transplant, so why hurry and take the patient out from a facility which works so well.  It seems more of a political move”.

Dr Kaushar Mishra of Primus Hospital has expressed similar views, “There is no question of a transplant at this stage.  The infection has to be controlled first, and the patient stabilized.  I do not understand what the hurry was to take the patient out.  Safdarjang Hospital, like other major hospitals in India, has excellent medical facilities and doctors to take care of the critically ill’.

Yet another senior doctor of AIIMS has said, “When the Prime Minister can be treated and operated here, what is the specific medical need to move a patient to Singapore?  What the government is saying does not seem to add up”.

Medical experts across the board are of the view that the doctors at Safdarjang Hospital were doing an excellent job and were taking good care of her.

Indeed, at a time when the government itself is promoting and advertising India as a destination for medical tourism and does not tire of boasting of the excellent medical expertise that the country has, we fail to see why this hurry to move the young woman out of the country on supposedly medical grounds of good treatment, and contrary to expert medical opinion?

The Head of the JPN Apex Trauma Centre, AIIMS, is reported as saying that `the decision was okayed keeping in mind the best interest of the patient and as directed by the Government’1. According to newspaper reports the CM Sheila Dixit was among the first to suggest this idea of treatment abroad.

The manner in which this lethal decision was taken, with even Health Ministry officials being kept in the dark, shows that it was no more than  another cynical gambit in the game of evading accountability for violence against women – yet another attempt to hide from the justified anger of the thousands of citizens on the streets of Delhi who are no longer taken in by  the paeans to  “good governance” and “progress” trotted out by the government.

The cynicism, callousness and sheer barbarity with which the ruling establishment has handled the public protests of the last weeks matches the brutality of the rape itself and proves their complicity in creating and sustaining a ruthless social, political and economic order that subjects millions of Indian women to violence on a daily basis.

We demand a public enquiry into the decision to shift the young woman out of the country.

We demand a public acceptance of culpability by the Chief Minister of Delhi, the Prime Minister and the President.

We demand justice for the young woman whose untimely and unnecessary death we are mourning today.

LET US NOT FORGET that this tragic incident is the latest in a long chronicle of cases of sexual violence ignored, covered up, denied and condoned by the government.

We demand immediate cancellation of bail and fast-tracking of trials in the 1 lakh rape cases currently pending in courts.

Student gangraped in moving bus in Delhi, male friend beaten up; both thrown off bus

New DelhiDelhi reinforced its reputation as one of the country’s most unsafe cities when a young woman was allegedly raped by five men in a moving bus last night. The woman, 23, and her friend were then thrown off the bus, semi-naked, at a flyover. The victim is at the Safdarjung Hospital in critical condition.

The uncle of the man accompanying the victim said they had boarded a whiteline private bus at around 11 pm from Munirka in south Delhi to go to Palam, where she lives. The whiteline buses ply for schools, offices and also as chartered buses in the Capital. About 10 minutes later, a few people on the bus began harassing her, he said, and when her friend objected they allegedly beat him up. “They took out a rod and beat him badly and then dragged her to the bus cabin where they raped her,” the uncle said.

The men then allegedly took off much of the victims’ clothing and threw them off the moving bus near the Mahipalpur flyover in south Delhi. The woman is a student of medicine in Delhi University. Her friend, who used to work in a software firm, was escorting her home after watching a film at the Select City Walk mall in Saket. They had taken an auto from there till Munirka.

The police said they received a phone call at 1:15 am about the incident. A first information report or FIR has been lodged.

The male friend of the victim is at the Vasant Vihar police station. The police said it was not clear yet whether the five assailants were passengers or bus staff.

No arrests have been made so far; the police have seized two buses and are checking to see if either is the one that the woman was raped in last night. They are also creating sketches of the accused based of the friend’s description and are monitoring CCTV

#India- #Justice for 15year old Tuba Tabassum #acidattack victim

I am Mohd. Arif Ashraf, Tuba Tabassum’s father.

On 26th September 2012, my daughter Tuba, busy with her preparations for the 10th board exams, was returning home after her tuitions, when four deviants threw acid on her.

The acid which was poured on her body, left her skin severely burnt and deformed her face beyond recognition. All of 15, she has now lost her vision from the left eye. She can’t even talk because of the immense physical pain that she is currently enduring.

The reason for the acid attack – the four accused, wanted to strike a conversation with Tuba but she flatly refused. This triggered their minds to harm my kid in such a grievous manner. The four boys were taken into custody by the Patna Police. They are now trying to get a relief using Juvenile status by presenting fake certificates of being minors, which they are not.

On the day of the attack, I rushed to a local hospital in Siwan to get treatment for my daughter. They referred us to Apollo Patna, where Tuba received treatment for 15 days. From there we came to Delhi on October 11 and since then she is admitted in Safdarjung Hospital. I work as a petition-writer in the local court and Tuba’s mother, Tabassum Perween is an anganwadi teacher. We haven’t been able to resume our duties since the day of the attack.

We have spent all that we could for our daughter’s treatment and now we are left with nothing to continue her treatment. Tuba’s medical records state that she has lost vision in the left eye, has chemical burns on face, neck, left shoulder and arm, back, and has patchy area over left breast, right arm and leg, and thigh. My daughter is in extreme pain and I am not able to put all that here in words.

My family really needs your support both financially and emotionally like you all helped Sonali Mukherjee. It is from there that I gathered all the courage and saw a bright ray of hope for my daughter.

Please help us so that we could continue my daughter’s treatment and fight for justice for her. If you want to help us monetarily or in any other way, send your donations to
