Delhi student gang-raped after leaving mall in an auto; two arrested
GhaziabadTwo of the three suspects in the gang-rape of a schoolgirl in Ghaziabad have been arrested today. The girl was gang-raped on Saturday after she took an auto-rickshaw  to head home from a mall in Ghaziabad, on the outskirts of Delhi, a little after 8 pm. The  auto had been stolen by three men who were on what the police describe as “a joyride.”The girl was told the two men sitting in the back were passengers.  “Shared autos” are a common practice here, partly because they make commuting cheaper, and because there’s a paucity of public transport.

The auto drove through multiple police check points for a journey that lasted more than two hours on Saturday night.  The men in the back  pinned the girl down and gagged her, preventing her from shouting for help, according to the police.

When the men had raped the teenager in a secluded area near a major highway, they threw her onto the road. But not before robbing her of her cash and cellphone.

Police patrol vans that were on duty did not spot the auto, or the abandoned girl.  She  was found lying bleeding near a highway by passers-by who took her to a police station.

The assault repeats the horrific details of the fatal gang-rape of a medical student in a moving bus in Delhi in December, which became the origin for massive street protests and tough new laws to punish crimes against women.  In that case, Amanat (NOT her real name) boarded a bus after visiting a South Delhi mall with a male friend.  A gang of men on the bus hit the couple with an iron rod, raped Amanat, and then threw her friend and her, naked and bleeding, onto the road.

Since then, the police has said that it has increased patrolling in areas like malls, which are visited frequently by women at nigh

#India- Student rapes tutor in Ghaziabad #Vaw

Dailybhaskar.com | Mar 05, 2013,

Ghaziabad: An ex-student raped his tutor in Kavi Nagar area of Ghaziabad on Monday morning. Police said the incident took place at the victim’s residence when she was alone.
The accused entered the victim’s house and increased the volume of the television to suppress her calls for help. An FIR has been lodged and the accused has been arrested.
Cops said the accused has been identified as Amit (18). He studies in a private school. Two months ago he had sought tuition in accounts from the victim. The victim, who is pursuing B.Com, had agreed to teach the 18-year-old as he was known to her family. The student had failed in his Class XII exams twice. However, but the victim stopped giving him tuitions due to his bad habits.
On Monday, the accused went to the victim’s house at 10.30am and raped her. Later, when the victim’s cousin reached the house, he found the girl injured and bleeding. “She was unconscious so we took her to a nearby hospital. Medical examination has confirmed that she was raped,” said a family member.
When cops were informed, a police team reached the scene and the accused was detained. He was arrested after rape was confirmed.
The family and supporters of the accused allegedly manhandled the victim’s family at the hospital and pressured them to withdraw the case.
Ghaziabad superintendent of police SS Yadav said an FIR under appropriate sections of Indian Penal Code, including 376, has been lodged with Kavi Nagar police station.

IMMEDIATE RELEASE- Noida Police threatening to book activist under NSA #mustshare

Noida police illegally picks up activist of workers’ organisation and two citizens – physical and mental harassment going on since last evening
Police is threatening to book them under the National Security Act (NSA)!!

Yesterday evening 10-12 persons from the Noida police arrived at the DTP centre of Naveen Prakash in Ghaziabad and forcibly took Naveen and his employee Raju with them. They made Naveen tocall his friend Tapish Maindola, and activist of the Bigul Mazdoor Dasta and seized him as soon as he arrived there. They took all three with them without informing anybody present where they were taking them. None of the three were allowed to make a call and their phones were seized and switched off by the police.
Their whereabouts were unknown till this morning when it was known that they were being held in the Sector 58 Police Station in Noida and were being physically and mentally harassed since last night.
The police has so far neither lodged an FIR nor charged them of any offence. They are only saying that you are instigating the workers for violence and we will book you under the NSA. Bigul Mazdoor Dasta has been holding street corner meetings in different parts of Noida and distributing a leaflet since February 23 (see link to a copy of the leaflet below).
The leaflet says that the incidents of sporadic violence during the two-day strike were only a reflection of the deep set anger and frustration in the millions of workers in Noida who were being denied even basic rights. It points out that such anarchic explosions of anger are no solutions to the problem and workers must organise themselves in revolutionary unions and political organisations to wage an organised struggle against capitalist exploitation and the state machinery hand-in-glove with the exploiters.
The two citizens seized along with Tapish are his social friends whom the police have caught just because they helped him get a sim card which the police had under illegal surveillance from some time!
It is obvious that the police, as always, are working like henchmen of the factory-owners of Noida. Bigul Mazdoor Dasta has been targeted several times before by the Noida police at the behest of the factory owners who trample even basic labour laws under their feet and rush to smother every voice of protest. It should be recalled that the factory-owners’ associations have been clamouring to book the workers under NSA for the incidents of 21-22 February.
We appeal to all friends in the media, workers organisations and others activists to protest against this illegal detention of Tapish and his innocent friends Naveen Prakash and Raju. We must put pressure on the Noida police to immediately release them and tender an apology.
