#India- Student rapes tutor in Ghaziabad #Vaw

Dailybhaskar.com | Mar 05, 2013,

Ghaziabad: An ex-student raped his tutor in Kavi Nagar area of Ghaziabad on Monday morning. Police said the incident took place at the victim’s residence when she was alone.
The accused entered the victim’s house and increased the volume of the television to suppress her calls for help. An FIR has been lodged and the accused has been arrested.
Cops said the accused has been identified as Amit (18). He studies in a private school. Two months ago he had sought tuition in accounts from the victim. The victim, who is pursuing B.Com, had agreed to teach the 18-year-old as he was known to her family. The student had failed in his Class XII exams twice. However, but the victim stopped giving him tuitions due to his bad habits.
On Monday, the accused went to the victim’s house at 10.30am and raped her. Later, when the victim’s cousin reached the house, he found the girl injured and bleeding. “She was unconscious so we took her to a nearby hospital. Medical examination has confirmed that she was raped,” said a family member.
When cops were informed, a police team reached the scene and the accused was detained. He was arrested after rape was confirmed.
The family and supporters of the accused allegedly manhandled the victim’s family at the hospital and pressured them to withdraw the case.
Ghaziabad superintendent of police SS Yadav said an FIR under appropriate sections of Indian Penal Code, including 376, has been lodged with Kavi Nagar police station.

Bombing in POSCO Area:When we don’t question #humanrights #stateterror

It is not even a month old when armed police force invaded Govindapur
to forcibly acquire land for POSCO. Since February 3, 2013 this area
has been turned in to an armed police camp. Excepting pro-posco goons
no one can enter the village and no one can get out.Police patrolling
continues for 24 hours. Even cats and dogs can’t enter without police
approval. Suddenly there was a bomb attack in the village in the
evening of March 2, 2013. Police were informed immediately. They did
not respond for 15 hours. But within an hour they could call media to
inform them that it was an accident involving bomb making. No media
person questioned the SP how could he know it without reaching the
spot. 3 important leaders of the anti-posco agitation died on the
spot. Two would have survived had they received medical help. One was
taken to the hospital by people themselves. One of them had filed a
FIR against a very powerful Idco officer who had attacked villagers on
February 3, 2013. Our team was among the few people to reach the spot
within hours. The images will make any one think and raise questions.
When we don’t question, truth is crushed and untruth prevails.

America’s Death Penalty Is Barbaric

By Mary Hamer

04 February, 2013
Countercurrents.org

*PURPOSE: The purpose of this paper is to discuss the Barbaric nature of America’s Death Penalty. I will give examples of several Death Row prisoner’s Executions to illustrate the Savage & Sadistic nature of Capital Punishment.

* MISSION STATEMENT: This essay is an attempt to get close to the Truth about the United States ‘ Death Penalty. I will give examples of American Executions including a case of a botched Florida Lethal injection & a botched Florida Electrocution. This paper is Not about Condemning President Obama’s, Congress’s & American citizens’ policy on Capital Punishment, but rather this essay Is about exposing the Truth about the Revengeful, expensive & irrational Death Penalty.

*KEY SECTIONS: The Key Sections of this paper are: I. Lethal Injection. II. Electrocution. III. Asphyxiation. IV. Hanging. V. Firing Squad.

I. FLORIDA ‘S BOTCHED LETHAL INJECTION of ANGEL DIAZ. 2006.

Execution : “Lethal injection executions generally end within 15 minutes, with the inmate unconscious after the first 3-5 minutes; Diaz’s took 34 (min.), and he was conscious for at least the first 25. A spokesperson for the Florida Department of Corrections initially claimed that Diaz felt no pain during the execution, but a coroner’s investigation (contradicted) that claim.” What Went Wrong: “Lethal injection ordinarily begins with the intravenous injection of pentothol, which purportedly brings about a coma and makes the effects of later drugs painless. The trouble is that the needle went through Diaz’ vein and into soft tissue deep in his arm, making the injection itself excruciating and possibly preventing the pentothol from taking effect. Tortured to Death: “Eyewitness reports indicate that Diaz was still moving and attempting to speak (or, perhaps, scream) more than twenty minutes into the execution, suggesting that he was still conscious and in pain. … His death was almost certainly slow and excruciatingly painful–and with his body frozen by the pavulon, he would have had no way of expressing that pain.” (1)

II. FLORIDA ‘S BOTCHED ELECTROCUTION of ALLEN LEE DAVIS. 1999. “Before he was pronounced dead … the Blood from his mouth had poured onto the collar of his white shirt, and the blood on his chest had spread to about the size of a dinner plate, even oozing through the buckle holes on the leather chest strap holding him to the chair.” A. His execution was the first in Florida’s new electric chair, built especially so it could accommodate a man Davis’s size (approximately 350 pounds). Later, when another Florida death row inmate challenged the constitutionality of the electric chair, Florida Supreme Court Justice Leander Shaw commented that “the color photos of Davis depict a man who — for all appearances — was brutally tortured to death by the citizens of Florida.” B. Justice Shaw also described the botched executions of Jesse Tafero and Pedro Medina (q.v.), calling the three executions “Barbaric spectacles” and “acts more befitting a Violent murderer than a Civilized state.” C. Justice Shaw included pictures of Davis’s dead body in his opinion. D. The execution was witnessed by a Florida State Senator, Ginny Brown-Waite, who at first was “shocked” to see the blood, until she realized that the blood was forming the shape of a cross and that it was a message from God saying he supported the execution.E. (2) To Florida State Senator Brown-Waite: Why didn’t the blood-shaped cross on Mr. Davis’ shirt signify God’s Condemnation of Florida’s Death Penalty?

* ALABAMA ‘S ELECTROCUTION of JOHN EVANS: 1983.

“ In 1983, the electrocution of John Evans in Alabama was described by an eyewitness as follows:” “At 8:30 p.m. the first jolt of 1900 volts of electricity passed through Mr. Evans’ body. It lasted thirty seconds. Sparks and flames erupted … from the electrode tied to Mr. Evans’ left leg. His body slammed against the straps holding him in the electric chair and his fist clenched permanently. The electrode apparently burst from the strap holding it in place. A large puff of grayish smoke and sparks poured out from under the hood that covered Mr. Evans’ face. An overpowering stench of burnt flesh and clothing began pervading the witness room. Two doctors examined Mr. Evans and declared that he was not dead.” “The electrode on the left leg was re-fastened. …Mr. Evans was administered a second … jolt of electricity. The stench of burning flesh was nauseating. More smoke emanated from his leg and head. Again, the doctors examined Mr. Evans. [They] reported that his heart was still beating, and that he was still alive. At that time, I asked the prison commissioner, who was communicating on an open telephone line to Governor George Wallace, to grant clemency on the grounds that Mr. Evans was being subjected to Cruel and unusual punishment. The request …was denied.” “At 8:40 p.m., a third charge of electricity … was passed through Mr. Evans’ body. At 8:44, the doctors pronounced him dead. The execution of John Evans took fourteen minutes.” Afterwards, officials were embarrassed by what one observer called the “Barbaric ritual.” The prison spokesman remarked, “This was supposed to be a very clean manner of administering death.” (3)

III. GAS CHAMBER, ASPHYXIATION: The introduction of the gas chamber was an attempt to improve on electrocution. In this method of execution the prisoner is strapped into a chair with a container of sulfuric acid underneath. The chamber is sealed, and cyanide is dropped into the acid to form a lethal gas. Execution by suffocation in the lethal gas chamber has not been abolished but lethal injection serves as the primary method in states which still authorize it. In 1996 a panel of judges on the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals in California (where the gas chamber has been used since 1933) ruled that this method is a “cruel and unusual punishment.” (4)

* ARIZONA ASPHYXIATION: Donald Eugene Harding. 1992. Death was not pronounced until 10 & ½ minutes after the cyanide tablets were dropped A. During the execution, Haring thrashed & struggled violently against the restraining straps. A TV journalist who witnessed the execution … said that Harding’s spasms & jerks lasted 6 min. & 37 sec.. “Obviously, this man was suffering. This was a violent death … an ugly event.” B. Another witness, (a) newspaper reporter … said “Harding’s death was extremely violent. He was in great pain. I heard him gasp & moan. I saw his body turn from red to purple.” C. One reporter who witnessed the execution suffered from insomnia & assorted illnesses for several weeks, two others were ‘Walking vegetables’ for several days.” D. (5)

*MISSISSIPPI ASPHYXIATION. Jimmy Lee Gray. 1983. “Officials had to clear the room eight minutes after the gas was released when Gray’s desperate gasps for air repulsed witnesses. His attorney, Dennis Balske of Montgomery, Alabama, criticized state officials for clearing the room when the inmate was still alive. Said noted death penalty defense attorney David Bruck, ‘Jimmy Lee Gray died banging his head against a steel pole in the gas chamber while the reporters counted his moans (eleven, according to the Associated Press).’ A. Later it was revealed that the executioner, Barry Bruce, was drunk.” B. (6)

IV. HANGING: “ The (historical) mode of execution, hanging , is an option still available in Delaware , New Hampshire and Washington . Death on the gallows is easily bungled: If the drop is too short, there will be a slow and agonizing death by strangulation. If the drop is too long, the head will be torn off.” (7)

V. FIRING SQUAD: “ Two states, Idaho and Utah, still authorize the firing squad . The prisoner is strapped into a chair and hooded. A target is pinned to the chest. Five marksmen, one with blanks, take aim and fire.” (8)

*CONCLUSION: America ‘s Death Penalty is Barbaric. President Obama, Congress & the American citizens are Responsible for these Savage Executions of human beings. Americans Sadistically support & witness these Cruel acts of Lethal injections, Electrocutions, Asphyxiations, etc.. Homo Sapiens are a Violent & Evil species. I, Mary Hamer withdraw my name from the Human race; I do not condone such brutal acts of Murder conducted in the name of the US Criminal justice system & American Freedom & Democracy.

Thank you. Respectfully, Mary Hamer MD. Florida , a Death Penalty state.

Aadhaar cards dumped with vendors #UID

Postmen fail to find beneficiaries at the given addresses in slums and colonies; residents cry foul

Aarti Kapur
Chandigarh, March 4
Thousands of Aadhaar cards of residents living in colonies and slums are gathering dust at post offices or with roadside vendors in these areas as the Department of Posts has not been able to locate recipients at the addresses mentioned on the cards.
For the past few months, postmen deputed in slums and colonies are at their wits’ end as they have failed to locate a large number of recipients at the given addresses. As a result, the undistributed cards are being dumped with area leaders or roadside vendors. In most cases, the cards are finding their way back to the post offices.
At Kajheri village alone, 56 Aadhaar cards were found lying with the area barber while the beneficiaries were running from pillar to post to get duplicate copies of the cards to avail of the services which are now available only after producing these cards. A few days ago, 200 Aadhaar cards were found lying in a garbage bin at Kajheri village.
Sham Singh of Colony No. 5 said two days ago, his area cobbler called him to deliver his Aadhaar card, which the area postman had dropped at his shop with the excuse that he had failed to locate his house. He said these days local confectionery shops and tea vendors were doing public service by delivering Aadhaar cards to residents as postmen often failed to locate them.
A representative of the Aam Aadmi Party, Kamal Kishore Sharma, who visited the colony two days ago, said residents of Kajheri had complained that around 200 Aadhaar cards were lying dumped in a garbage bin in the area. Residents then picked these up and informed the beneficiaries. Thousands of residents in 25 other colonies in the city are facing a similar problem.
A senior official of the Department of Posts said postmen had complained that they often found it difficult to deliver Aadhaar cards at the postal addresses in slums and colonies as a majority of the slum dwellers were not residing at the given addresses.
The official said the situation was even worse in rehabilitation colonies where residents had removed common walls due to which their addresses had changed.
Assistant Director General, Unique Identification Authority of India, Charu Bali admitted that they had received complaints from Kajheri and the department would communicate with the Department of Posts to resolve the issue. She said the UT Administration would also be informed about it so that the issue of delivering Aadhaar cards at the actual addresses could be resolved.
Residents of Mauli Jagran said a local leader had distributed Aadhaar cards to them instead of the postman concerned who was supposed to do so. They alleged that a number of residents had to apply for a duplicate copy of the Aadhaar card as they had not received the original one.

AAP delegation meets DC
A delegation of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Monday met the UT Deputy Commissioner and complained that in Kajheri village, residents had complained that they were being charged Rs 10 for the delivery of an Aadhaar card at their address. Nitika Sharma, a representative of the party, said they had deposited 56 Aadhaar cards, which they had found lying at a barber’s shop in the area, with the Deputy Commissioner’s office. The party has demanded action against those responsible for the lapse.

Punjab & Haryana High Court finds application of UID /Aadhaar legally questionable #biometrics

Punjab & Haryana High Court finds application of Unique Identification (UID)/Aadhaar legally questionable

Executive order for Biometric UID ‘Cards’ withdrawn

UPA’s Budget 2013 is promotion of Aadhaar is unconstitutional

High Court finds application of UID/Aadhaar illegal like the Parliamentary Committee on Finance

Responding to the direction issued to the Union of India and Union Territory of Chandigarh by Punjab and Haryana High Court in the matter of Civil Writ Petition 569 of 2013 filed in the High Court against Union of India and others, the Executive Order for making Unique Identification (UID)/Aadhaar has been withdrawn.

In its order the bench of Justice A K Sikri, Chief Justice and Justice Rakesh Kumar Jain dated February 19, 2013 had not noted that the petition “raises a pure question of law.” Since the Executive Order was withdrawn, the case too was disposed of March 2, 2013 with a two page order.

The Order observes, “In this writ petition filed as PIL, the petitioner has challenged the vires of notification issued by Union of India for making it compulsory to have UID Cards. Admittedly, this issue is pending before the Supreme Court and therefore, on

the last date of hearing i.e. on 19.2.2013, we did not observe anything on this issue.”

It is further observed that “Second issue raised in this petition is that vide order dated 5.12.2012, respondent No.3 i.e. Deputy Commissioner, U.T., Chandigarh has given directions to the Branch In charge Registration-cum-Accountant, office of Registering & Licensing Authority, Chandigarh not to accept any application for registration of vehicle and grant of learner/regular driving licence without UID card.”

It is quite bizarre that Union Territory of Chandigarh remains ignorant of the fact that UID is not a card, it is a 12 digit number. The entire government machinery is hiding the fact that fundamentally UID is not a proof of identity, it is an identifier contained in the Central Identities Data Repository (CIDR)of (UID)/Aadhaar Numbers. Union Territory of Chandigarh failed to inform the Court the UID is not a card but an identification number based on biometric data without any legal mandate.

The petition had made the following prayers:   i) Issue a writ in the nature of certiorari to quash Executive order dated 5.12.2012 passed by respondent no.3  passed in violation of Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 and Central Motor Vehicle Rules, 1989 vide which  UID has been mandatory for the registration of vehicles  and grant of learner/ regular driving licence.

ii) a writ in the nature of mandamus directing Union of India to accept other proofs of Identity and address i.e. Voter I-Card issued by Election Commission of India, the Constitutional body and Passport issued by Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Govt. of India and other proofs of address, age prescribed under Rule 4 of Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989 for issuance of learning/ regular driving licence and for registration of vehicle;

iii) Further it sought direction for Union Territory of Chandigarh and Union of India not to make mandatory UID for essential public Utility Services and accept other documents as proof of Identity and address as per the Rules;

iv) a writ in the nature of certiorari quashing notification dated 28.1.2009 being illegal and further issuance of a appropriate writ declaring the Unique Identification Authority of India constituted vide Notification dated 28.1.2009 unconstitutional as the same has no legal sanctity as the UIDAI been constituted and functioning illegally as the National Identification Authority of India Bill-2010 is pending in the Parliament of India.

The writ petition had emphasized that during the pendency of the petition Executive order dated December 5, 2012 and other similar executive orders vide which Adhaar have been made compulsory for essential public utility services may kindly be stayed.

In its concluding paragraph the March 2, 2013 order of the High Court reads, “Today, short affidavit of Mr.M.Shayin, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, UT, Chandigarh is filed stating that the aforesaid instructions have been reviewed and now the insistence of UID card is no longer treated as mandatory. No further orders are required to be passed in this petition, which is accordingly disposed of.”

It is noteworthy that UPA’s Budget Speech of 2013 announced that “We are redoubling our efforts to ensure that the digitized beneficiary lists are available; that a bank account is opened for each beneficiary; and that the bank account is seeded with Aadhaar in due course.” In the light of the High Court’s order, the implementation of opening of bank accounts seeded with UID/Aadhaar is legally and constitutionally questionable.  Earlier, Parliamentary Standing Committee, Finance rejected the UID/Aadhaar project and the related UID Bill in its report to the Parliament dated December 13, 2011.

Citizens Forum for Civil Liberties (CFCL) has been campaigning against unregulated biometric, surveillance and identification technology companies since 2010 and had appeared before the Parliamentary Standing Committee, Finance in this regard. CFCL has consistently underlined that the silence of the States which are quite vocal about threats to federal structure from Union Home Ministry‘s National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC) and National Intelligence Grid (NATGRID) that integrates 21 sets of databases in the matter of the creation of UID’s Centralized Identities Data Register (CIDR) disregarding the fact that Planning Commission’s CIDR and Home Ministry’s National Population Register (NPR) is inexplicable.

PRESS RELEASE- Demonstration in San Francisco against VAW in India

Protesters  Demand Justice for victims and  punishment for perpetrators

Against a background of ever-increasing reports of rape and other violence on women in India, several individuals gathered on Sunday, March 3rd, in front of the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco to stand in solidarity with victims and survivors of gender violence in India. The gathering was organized by the Bay Area chapter of the Association for India’s Development (AID). Given the growing outrage in India as a result of the recent rape case in Delhi, the protestors wanted to raise awareness and express anger against the alarming incidence of violence. This event marked special mention of Soni Sori, an adivasi school teacher currently held in the Central Jail in Jagdalpur, Chhattisgarh, India. Similar protests have also been organized in other cities including Boston, London and several cities in India in the week leading up to the International Women’s Day on March 8th. Soni Sori has been the symbol of global protests in the past due to the custodial rape and torture she had to face from the jail authorities.

Sori was arrested in New Delhi on October 4, 2011 and accused of being a Maoist supporter. Despite her appeals to courts in New Delhi, she was handed over to the Chhattisgarh police and taken to the state where she was beaten, sexually assaulted and given electric shocks by the police. Sori documented her torture in letters she wrote to her lawyer, and which have since been widely publicized.

Participants raised slogans and sang songs against patriarchy. They demanded freedom for Sori and punishment for her torturers. Anitha Majji, a software professional in the Bay Area expressed outrage and on being asked why she was there, responded “Soni Sori must be freed immediately, and the State must be held accountable. The sexual torture she had to go through is unacceptable.” It is noteworthy to mention that Sori has been acquitted in four out of the eight cases in which she was charged.

Participants also spoke of the layered violence that women face as a result of gender, class, caste and racial oppression. The Delhi  gang rape  sparked massive protests in India, and women got on the streets in huge numbers to make themselves heard. “Because I’m a woman, that’s why it’s important. We have to have more freedom, freedom of the press, freedom of the news, freedom to print whatever that comes in that’s against women. We  need to be heard all over the world. We need to be heard.” said Angie Bannister, a retired nurse. Organizers assured that this is just one in a many series of actions to speak against the injustice and violence that women face on a daily basis.

#Pune – MNS workers thrash north Indian parent #WTFnews

PUNE, March 5, 2013, tHE hINDU
A group of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) party workers thrashed the father of a north Indian student in Satara on Monday afternoon, alleging that he had forged the age certificate which would get his son admission into the 5th standard of the Sainik School in Satara.

“The outsiders (north Indians) come here with 15-year-old boys and take admission into this prestigious school in 5th standard which is meant for 10-11 year olds. Can we not make out the difference between a 10-year-old and a 15-year-old boy? Some parents complained to us and decided to take appropriate action against them,” Satara MNS chief Ranjit Bhosale told The Hindu.

According to eye witnesses, the victim Mukesh Kumar who hailed from Uttar Pradesh, was accompanying his son for the mandatory medical check up before the admission at the government hospital in Satara, when MNS workers came and conducted an identification parade.

“He (Mr. Kumar) spoke rudely with us, hence we had to tackle him physically,” Mr. Bhosale said.

“Those people pay doctors to give them fake certificates, and then top in sports, academics and our boys are left behind. We do not oppose the 30 per cent reservation for students from other States, but cheating the school has to stop,” he stated.

Asked whether he had complained against the hospital and the school for issuing and accepting fake age certificates, Mr. Bhosale said, “The ones who issue the certificates accept bribe, and some of the school authorities, too, are outsiders.”

However, no police complaint was registered against the MNS workers. There was a police bandobast at the school after the incident.

MNS chief Raj Thackeray said in Mumbai that he was not aware of the incident, adding, “wherever outsiders get opportunities meant for Maharashtrians, we will oppose.”

One billion rising for Soni Sori and all women prisoners till they are Free #Vaw #1billionrising

SONISORIOBR

March 1, 2013

Kamayani Bali Mahabal

I am  rising for an incarcerated tribal teacher Soni Sori , a  woman who juggled several roles – a tribal journalist, activist, teacher, mother of three young kids. A woman who dared to speak against the interests of the Chhattisgarh State and mining companies. A woman who did not succumb to the emotional, physical, sexual harassment targeted at breaking her spirits in the jail. She, instead, knocked at the conscience of the world outside.

She  began her fight against injustice in October 2011, when she was arrested on the charges of being a maoist supporter and brutally, physically and sexually tortured in custody by the Chhattisgarh police.

The announcement of the President’s Police Medal for Gallantry on 63rdRepublic day of India in 2012 for Ankit Garg, the SP of Dantewada is a reflection of the sad state of the Indian Republic .. It was shocking to see that a police officer who was accused of brutalising and torturing the young Adivasi teacher, Soni Sori, was lauded by the State even after reports of perversity of the worst kind in the way he reportedly ordered the torture of Sori in police custody.

ACTIONS YOU CAN TAKE ONLINE

She fought back! She went on hunger strike in jail and protested against the human rights violations and the treatment by the Chhattisgarh Police; she wrote letters tot he court about the situation in prison and continues to speak out whenever she can.

Even after more than  a year, Soni has not received justice. Her struggle continues…

Soni Sori has become a symbol of mistreatment of all women prisoners .

Her fight for justice is not just for herself but also for others.

Her letters from Prison which spread like for fire for an International support on March 8th 2012

WE  Rise for Soni Sori because:

  1. Far from being an oppressed and downtrodden woman, as an outspoken critic of the state policies, the mining companies, and the Maoists, Soni Sori is being punished for exerting her democratic right to speak out indefence of her adivasi/ Indigenous  community and their traditional lands rather than for a crime she has not even been tried for.
  2. She is being punished by those who would not have the authority to mete out punishment even if she were guilty of a crime and the form of her punishments are not to be found in any penal code anywhere in the world.
  3. If the Indian government is not willing to protect women from the illegal actions of its own agents when in their custody, then what message is it sending out to Indian men – that women are fair game just for going out or speaking out?
  4. The Indian state not only seems to be failing to protect women from sexual and other types of violence, but is in fact sanctioning, indeed rewarding such crimes when they are committed by its employees and representatives to silence women who speak out in defence of human rights.

We Rise Because We Refuse To Support State Violence On Women.

We Rise Because Rape And Violence Against Women Under Any Circumstances is Unacceptable.

We Rise On This International Women’s Day To Demand Freedom for Soni Sori & Punishment For Her Perpetrators.

Background:
Justice Rocks is a copy-left initiative to invite youngsters to express themselves on issues that matter, and to use the medium of performing arts and music to challenge corporate globalisation, and discriminatory andhate politics. Justice Rocks events are usually unsponsored. Unlike sponsored events where organisers are expected to pay glowing tributes to undeserving sponsors, at Justice Rocks we lampoon our deserving unsponsors and put forth our points of view on the theme of the concert. In the past, we have held the “Don‘t Work for Dirty Dow” concert unsponsored by Union Carbide and Dow Chemical; “Lever Fever” on Kodaikanal‘s mercury pollution unsponsored by Unilever; “Chillout” on climate change unsponsored by the fossil fuel industryand “Unclear Energy” on nuclear power unsponsored by Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam.

This year’s Justice Rocks concert “Culture Unplugged” was triggered by a number of unfolding events — the strident responses to the Delhi rape case; Pattali Makkal Katchi’s threat to couples contemplating inter-caste marriages; the Dharmapuri violence where homes of dalits were destroyed; the ongoing repression of villagers opposed to the Koodakulam nuclear plant; the violent attack by Hindu fundamentalists on youngsters on a retreat at a Mangalore resort; the fatwa on the Kashmiri girl-rock band Pragaash by fundamentalistMuslim clerics forcing them to quit musicthe increasing number of self-immolations by Tibetan monks to protest against China‘s cultural imperialism; the violent attacks on non-Sinhala ethnicities by Buddhist fundamentalist groups like Bodu Bala Sena in Colombo and elsewhere; and of course, our own Prime Minister‘s economic fundamentalism.

Join us for an evening of fun, making fun and making some sense and much nonsense of our chaotic world.
