Here are the latest developments in the case:
  1. The Delhi Police last night added three more sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against the accused. The fresh sections against the accused are 307 (attempt to murder), 201 (destruction of evidence) and 390 (robbery).
  2. UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi paid a visit to the Safdurjung Hospital, where she met the 23-year-old victim late on Tuesday night. Earlier, she phoned and wrote to Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde. She pushed for a strict punishment for the guilty. Lot of cries are being made inside and outside the parliament to punish the rapists with death.
We must perhaps be going beyond merely expressing outrage toward the rapists , howsoever legitimate our anger might be.. More importantly, we should be able to dissociate ourselves from a culture of rape. Haven’t our political/cultural bosses been repeatedly advising our women to keep away from rapists, by proper dressing, behaviour and all? Have you ever heard of them telling men to treat women as equal humans ?
