Kamayani Bali Mahabal, an activist-blogger, has posted an impassioned open letter to Ogilvy South Asia executive chairman and national creative director Piyush Pandey in the context of the campaign created by his agency for Vedanta and his role in the communication.
“After so many socially responsible ad campaigns by you I was aghast to see Vedanta’s “Creating Happiness” ad. Recently unveiling the campaign you said: “The Vedanta ‘Creating Happiness’ campaign is extremely close to my heart for it’s all about enabling India. I have worked on this campaign along with my team as an excited young copywriter and I look forward to the people of India not just appreciating Vedanta’s efforts, but getting inspired to do something on their own to make India a happier place.”

kracktivist, you are doing great work, and in a very calm and dignified way.
No name-calling, no hysteria.
My congratulations and good wishes.

It’s foolish to expect an Ad man to stand for ethics & truth. This is an industry based upon a fundamental priniciple – “legitimise lies”. They have the whole might of the media behind them. So don’t be surprised when you find. Prasoon Joshi “Opening happiness” for Coca-cola (in plachimada maybe?) and Piyush Pandey “Creating happiness” for Vednata maybe!
An NDTV or an IBN Live, could have refused to show the vedanata ad on their channel. did they? Instead NDTV has gone to extend of tying up with Coke for a CSR activity on improving “Child Education” in this country. Ad men & the party hopping journos are all hand in hand. when money is thrown at them, ethics is flushed down the drain. In all probability Piyush Pandey would have had a good laugh over a glass of JD after reading this letter, because these things would never strike him or his kinds!
